Ok, so I was not very pleased with my first attempt to create a photoblog. Though looking around a bit I found Pixelpost which seems to do the job very well! Though I had to tweak it a bit to get it to work as I wanted to. Here are all the things I did:

PHP has a limited upload file size of 2Mb, some of my images are larger than that! So the easiest way to fix this was to create a .htaccess file in the admin-directory of PixelPost. The file included this line
php_value upload_max_filesize 3M
which change the max size to 3Mb.
Testing the Image Rresize and Wallpaper mod that would take care of teh scaling of uploaded images, it turned out I could not make it work, so based on the PhotoFrame source I changed the admin script so it would be configurable and one could decide to use GD or ImageMagick. A nice added feature is that the ImageMagick convert script preserves EXIF data so I dont loose that.
I also installed Image Rating which enables visitor to give a 1 to 5 vote on each picture. See if people will use it.
Random Image is not installed yet but is a nice feature that I would like to have.
As mentioned before I wanted a clean and nice design and I didnt want to hack all the html and css. Designs that have inspired me are NoTraces, MysteryMe, Top Left Pixel, SensorChip and Round-here I found the Jasonpix template that I liked so I started with using that, maybe I change it later on…
Since Josef installed Asterisk on his PC I have been interested in doing it as well but never really got time or enough motivation. For instance one problem has been my server is in the closet and I dont want to go there and answer the phone nore have a lot of more cables going in and out from there. So what to do? Therefore this was really interesting:
VoIP DECT and analogue phones on OSS linux soundcards using asterisk
So finally I decided to setup my own Photoblog. I have already a lot of images put online on here (swedish) but it’s not a really good way to show what I think are the best shots and I can’t get any feedback. So therefore I setup this photoblog. To set it up I found this nice tutorial at Quixotic Pixels
I have been using Thotor some time now to publish photos I take. I really like the flexibility of the it but sometimes I run into problems. Like today. This entry is just to share how I solved these issues.
I wanted to add a small note or comment on the webpage when the image was taken. I could not use <#datetime>-tag in Thotor since the file date was changed when I did some changes to the photos. After some tests I found a nifty little tool called jHead that helped me a lot! jHead can read the date in the jpeg file when the photo was taken and set the file date to that date, and I could use the Thotor <#datetime>-tag. Here’s an example how it can look like.
Another problem I had earlier today was how to generate a chronological order of my photos. Usually there is no problem with Canon EOS Viewer Utility and Renamer but today I had images taken both with my 20D and my A75 and I wanted them all in chronological order. The EOS Viewer Utility changes the modified date of the files if you modify anything in the photo and therefore did every image I changed appear as to have a faulty date, atleast as seen from Renamer since Renamer can not sort images based on the EXIF tag when it is taken. Though Stamp could take car of this since it can read the EXIF tag and rename the file accordingly. Also this is possbile to do with jHead so maybe I do not need to keep Stamp installed anymore…
