Started to configure and tweak Cricket to fit my needs to monitor the temperature from the two TINIs I have here.
I’m not sure exactley how far the ports installation goes in the Installing Cricket for the Complete Beginner documentation. Most of the configuration up to 7 is done. Though the Cricket home directory is set to /usr/local/cricket instead of /home/cricket.
Okey, so last time I just got to download Cricket. Unpacked the downloaded file and started to read the documentation. After a while trying to install the Perl modules needed I realized Cricket already existed in the FreeBSD ports… should have looked there from the beginning. Ok, so thats about it for tonight.
Edited: Hmm should have read my blog! Then I would have seen that Cricket is in the ports…. Ok, I hope I read this the next time since now Cricket is installed as well as the RRD tool so now I just need to configure them.
So today I thought I will give Cricket a try, and maybe Cacti as well if I get Cricekt to work. It seems easy to install, Cricket is in the ports, ports/net/cricket.
I have used MRTG before to monitor some data like the uptime of my DSL link. But since its quite hard to configure I have been looking for other tools.
Today there was some discussion of bandwidth monitoring on the BF1942-linux_server mailinglist. Also monitoring game server statistics would be interesting. People on the list recommended the following tools:
– Cacti – BWBar – NTop
From before I have been recommended to look at Cricket that seems to use ”>RRDTool as Cacti does to. No its just decide which one to use:-)
